Privacy Policy — Local Trading Journal

Effective date: 12 June 2026

Local Trading Journal is built on one principle: your trading data belongs to you and stays on your device.

The short version

Your journal stays local

Everything you enter into the app is written to your Mac’s local application storage. It is never uploaded, synced, or transmitted to us. Backups are files you create and keep wherever you choose. If you delete the app and its data, your information is gone — we hold no copy, because we never had one.

Your optional PIN lock is stored locally as a cryptographic hash. We cannot recover or reset it.

Optional AI features (Anthropic)

The app includes optional AI analysis. It is off by default and only works if you choose to add your own Anthropic API key.

When — and only when — you actively use an AI feature, the relevant journal content (for example, the trades you ask it to analyse) is sent directly from your Mac to Anthropic’s API to generate the response. This data goes to Anthropic, not to us; we never see it. Your API key is stored locally on your device.

Anthropic processes this data under its own terms: see the Anthropic Privacy Policy. If you never add an API key, no journal data ever leaves your device through this feature.

Market data (news and Fear & Greed Index)

If enabled, the app fetches public market information — financial news headlines and the Fear & Greed Index — from third-party public sources. These are ordinary web requests made from your Mac, like a browser loading a page: the third-party service technically receives your IP address as part of any internet request. No journal data, personal information, or identifiers are sent with these requests. You can disable these widgets in the app’s settings, after which the app makes no such requests.

Purchases

Subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple through the Mac App Store. We never receive your payment details. Apple’s handling of purchase data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Children

The app is a professional tool intended for adults and is not directed at children.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new effective date. Since the app collects nothing, meaningful changes are unlikely.
